NEWS: Details of the Social Event on 17th May has been updated. Please see News page.
The Berkshire Walkers is a walking group for young people. We aim to offer an informal and relaxed approach to enjoying the countryside. Walks are of varying lengths and take place throughout the Berkshire Area (and the neighbouring counties).
We are part of the Ramblers Association and our group was formed in February 2000 as part of their campaign to introduce younger people to rambling. Most of our members are in their twenties and thirties, but we have a few members in their early forties, so don't feel excluded if you're young at heart!
Our walks generally range in length from five to fifteen miles, and are also graded in difficulty based on terrain and pace. We have at least one walk every week, on either a Saturday or Sunday, and occasionally both. In the summer we sometimes have additional short walks on a week day evening. Walks normally include a picnic lunch stop and often also include a stop at a country pub along the way. This allows a brief rest and a chance to socialise with your fellow walkers.
We also organise a couple of social events every month. These include such things as meals, cinema, ten pin bowling and just going to the pub. Although these events are not exactly walking related, they are a good way of meeting the group if you're new.
In addition to our walks programme, we have a few organised walking holidays each year. These are usually long weekends away in the UK but we often also include a week abroad.
If you are interested in joining our group, why not come along to a couple of walks or a social event to see what you think. Once you decide to join, have a chat with our membership secretary, who will explain how to apply to the Ramblers Association and be assigned to our group (Berkshire 08).
